Editor's Note
In 2000, WHM launched its Internet homepage at www.whmny.org, to give members and nonmembers greater opportunity to communicate with the
organization. Our goal was to make the website the tool by which members could
share information and gain access to potential resources. In keeping with goal,
the newsletter will change from the paper to electronic format. To contact us,
go to info@whmny.org.
It is the goal of the newsletter to keep you abreast of current issues in
the healthcare arena as well as provide useful business topics and insights.
We have included a variety of articles in this issue from quality of care to
networking and interviewing skills. I encourage you to email us with your feedback
so we can devote future articles to the issues you deem critical in our field.
I hope to hear from you at smaliszewski@optonline.net

Retrospective Billing Audits
Coding and billing is one of many high-risk areas that continually challenge practitioners. One major reason this area is risky is the myriad of complex and ever changing coding and billing rules and regulations that need to be correctly interpreted and applied. Additionally, insurance fraud is increasing more each year, with the abuse particularly impacting auto insurance, workers’ compensation, and health insurance lines, adding up to loses in the billions of dollars. Unfortunately, honest billing errors may be mischaracterized as fraud.
